Ode to the Observer

There's really only one reason to actually read anything on the official SWTOR forums.
To see what Georg Zoeller is saying on the Dev Tracker.

The forums are a massive cesspit of misinformation and hysterical stupidity, so it's sort of amazing to see a guy that actually knows what he's talking about come in and dismantle people. Picture him doing it in a German accent too, it's pretty bad-ass.

This again serves as a helpful reminder of why getting upset about a game mechanic for a game you haven't played yet is sometimes a waste of time.
Oh snnnnaaaaapppp. Dev just called yo mama a waste of time, son.

He's my hero of the week.

Until the next time I want to bitch about in-combat stealth.

It's good to want

I'm kind of sad when I see people keep asking Wrath of Heroes for the same boring classes they played in Warhammer Online. Warrior Priest? ...Meh. Rune Priest? Are you kidding? Rune Priests are literally just midgets with big "kick me!" signs strapped to their backs as jokes.  They can't take them off because their arms are too short.

Seriously, who gets excited to play a Man-Baby who uses alphabet magic to heal?

How about adding a Chaos Dwarf Priest of Hashut, so it would at least be vaguely cool and interesting as compared to Rune Priests who are painfully uncool and completely devoid of any appeal.

Guys need a fat, scary, hairy, evil Healer to play.

And where's the f'ing Troll? You said there'd be farty, pukey Troll monsters. Give.

Let us be the characters we haven't played.

SWTOR Release Date

There. 12-20-11. Now STFU about it.

Launch date + pricing

  • 1 Month Subscription: $14.99
  • 3 Month Subscription: $13.99 per month ($41.97)
  • 6 Month Subscription: $12.99 per month ($77.94)

SWTOR releases 12/20/11. Christmas is officially canceled.

We can be Heroes

Oh my #@!&ing lord I have a toothache.

For Warhammer fans - here are the 2 new characters added this week to Wrath of Heroes:

Tomb King Liche Priest.
Dark Elf Sorceress

Two casters. The Liche Priest is a support class for you guys that don't want to be the star of the show and prefer to aid allies and debuff enemies. The Sorceress is all about using backloaded dark magic.

I think it's going to be really hard for this lame-ass "Wrath of Heroes" to try and compete with the real deal, "Bunch of Heroes".

That's right, there is going to be a whole Bunch of Heroes.

Or, like, four of them.

Scary Old Communist Guy in Sunglasses
Cartoonishly Stereotypical Asian Chick
Cartoonishly Stereotypical American Black Dude
and of course, Math Teacher in a Bicycle Helmet

Why even bother releasing Diablo now?

~

Also, I'm trying to muster up the give-a-fuck to play Brawl Busters now that I've got a key.
Maybe I'll see you there tomorrow, and I will attack you with a guitar or a turkey leg or a who gives a shit.

Now you see me, now you

With the official confirmation of in-combat stealth being handed out like candy in SWTOR, we have to look at the PvP lakes this way:
Consulars/Inquistitors, Smugglers/Agents, Warriors/Knights all have a combat vanish available in one of their ACs.

Troopers/Bounty Hunters don't have any combat stealth yet, but at this point I wouldn't be surprised if they got an in-combat camouflage where they turn into a bush or something.

Some people are concerned about how this could be overpowered in PvP lakes, with terms like 'reset button' and 'Get Out of Jail Free Card' being used.

Like, just looking at the Smuggler AC, he could sap, cleanse all dots himself and sprint into an improved stealth vanish to heal up behind cover while you're bleeding to death and spinning around screaming like you're in a shitty horror movie.

But I'm sure this has been tested in the lakes for months now and has nothing to do with WoW Rogues wanting all their old WoW Rogue abilities or the fact that it appears nigh impossible to unflag from combat.

SWTOR PvP News & Weekend Death Orgy

Gabe answered some questions about TOR PvP here (scroll down to Community Q+A)

The big news

- "one of the top things on our list for post launch is a rated Warzone system where players can form teams, earn team ratings, earn individual ratings, as well as participate in tournaments, etc."

- "Dual Speccing is something we want to add soon after launch"

~

Reminder for those in the Wrath of Heroes beta - there's another murderfest scheduled for today @ 7pm - 9pm EDT and another tomorrow @ 1pm - 5pm EDT. They've added a Skaven Gutter Runner and the Chaos Marauder to the stable, if you haven't played them.
(Official WoH Site)

Enjoy the weekend, kill ya later.

Smuggler progression video released

Seen here, check it out, enjoy it!

*Edit: HD version from youtube.

- Opens with a very Han Solo-esque Smuggler in a Han-ish outfit - blue jacket, brown pants, tearing it up with a single blaster.

 - Different outfit - brown jacket, black slacks, gunfighter belt.

- Dirty Kick with the hysterical 'Nut-Crunch' sound effect and a clearly audible high-pitched "YEOW!" is heard. I still love the "OW my balls!" stun animation.

- Smooth use of rolling into cover and tossing a charge at his target.

- Blaster kind of looks like a clunky hair dryer. But a dangerous hair dryer. With a scope on it.

- Charge detonates in a nice flash, Smuggler welcomes the big frog-dude back into the fight by violently pistol whipping him to the floor.

- The Scoundrel. His outfit now looks layered; he's got on a shoulderguard, black gloves, a utilitarian belt. Has one of those small Luger-looking popcap blasters seen in the Bounty Hunter video, except it looks a little larger and less laughable now.

- Launches something that pops a green cloud in that Bounty Hunter's face, putting the guy to sleep briefly. It looks almost like it was wrist-mounted, maybe he's just tossing something from under his sleeve?

- Sucker Punch! It's a left uppercut that you make with a "and stay down!" face.

- Some sort of cone AOE burst of blaster fire.

- Inquisitor shows up and spins his lightsaber around before getting dropped with a single shot. Lovely reference to Indiana Jones.

- Smuggler spins his blaster around to show off while holstering it. I want to do this in PVP, over your corpse.

- Another Scoundrel set of gear. Wearing a lot of white, so he's probably one of those rare, goody two-shoes Lightside Smugglers. Nice pimp cape. He's got on the Smuggler's pilot-type headgear - leather flying cap, goggles, earphones and a bandito facemask.

- Rolls into combat, uses his scattergun to blast an alien in the back. Again, we see the scattergun pulled off the back here and it looks like a pretty cool shotgun. Ver' sexy.

- Flash grenade to mez another alien, enters stealth (cool blue outline), looks like another vicious Blaster Whip that knocks a foe to the floor.
*Edit: What I originally thought was just another embellishment to make the Smuggler look cool is actually a reveal of a new ability. You can clearly see him throw a smoke bomb to stealth in combat, like a Rogue using Vanish.
This is the new WoW, same as the old WoW.

- Heals up an ally with a little probe droid. Almost forgot this guy can heal, too.

- Group stealth seen in action.

- The Gunslinger. Nice bomber jacket here, holstered belt. Two different blasters.

- Funny 'Surrender' detaunt animation, he drops pockets full of credits, brass knuckles, what looks like a lightsaber... and oh no, it was a trick! Bowdaar rushes in and clobbers a dude, knocking him across the room.

- Showy firing of the blasters, crossing them hand over hand. Possible channeled attack?

- Double blaster spin into holsters move with a little glowy green animation. Again, I will be doing this over your corpse in PVP. Enjoy the show.

- 2nd Gunslinger outfit - The cowboy outfit we've been seeing. Cowboy hat + bandit mask, bad-ass duster.

- That scene with the Smuggler running away from an army of enemies is another nod to Han. I laughed.

- Smuggler uses portable cover + his entrench skill to avoid any gap closers and then mows down his targets before they can touch him. You'll also notice that he slips his gun barrels into some sort of flaring gadgets.

- Closes with the awesome Smuggler recuperate animation, he tosses a coin into the air and blasts it with a quickdraw shot from the hip.

Wrath of Heroessshhhh!

Well, I officially can't even speculate about Wrath of Heroes now.

The NDA probably also rules out me doing fake interviews with fake Carrie Gouskos.

Damn it.

Hey look, it's Mykiel:

Pro Tip: in your first 3 way... pace yourself

I'm so nervous, I just hope I don't stand off in a corner, polishing my sword because I'm unsure where to stick it.
